The main character of the trilogy. Initially she believes herself to be human, but is later revealed to be a half-Avatar. For her home, see Leslie's Apartment.

Appearance

Personality

Leslie seems quite dismissive of modern culture, calling the current TV trends "mindless trash" (1.1). Tends to drink heavily when she goes out with her friends Jasmine and Rhiannon, but it's not clear if this is her habit or their influence. Relies on strong coffee to wake her up again after a night out. Suffers from moderately intense hangovers, but it back to normal pretty quickly. (1.1.2)

Job

Works in an office. Started 2 months before Hunter's Gift. Her immediate supervisor is Becker, and her friends Jasmine and Rhiannon also work there.

"This was the part of her job she hated the most, when it was just her and a computer, copying records between three different systems that did different parts of the same job, a function that could probably have been automated if three different teams of prehistoric programmers had been able to agree on the meanings of a couple of terms, and not end up working on three parts of slightly different understandings of the whole process. Sometimes she wondered if she was the grease that allowed a couple of very large cogs in the machine to mesh smoothly, if her brain was being ground down to mush between every pair of teeth on the wheel, every customer passed through safely."(1.1.5)

Implied that Becker keeps an eye on the office progress tallies, and will yell at anyone who's falling behind their quota when it gets to break time; but Leslie is on target.(1.1.5)

History

Leslie has had a couple of traumatic events involving fire; firstly the death of her mother, and then the orphanage fire. This has left her with a phobia of fire, and even thinking about people being burned leaves her nervous and shaking, unable to concentrate because of the nightmare images flashing through her mind (1.1.4)(1.1.5).
